Since my wife has supported me getting into home brewing, I thought my first beer should be something she'll like. I'm brewing it this weekend, and I have a question.

The directions call for the strawberry flavoring to be added in the secondary. I wasn't planning on using a secondary based on what I've read here and wanted to know if I should wait a week to add the flavoring or just add it in the beginning.

My LHBS was adamant that I rack after 7 days and secondary for 7 - 14 so I have doubts about my original plan.

My plan is 21 days in a glass primary followed by 21 days in the bottle.

Thoughts?

I'm not sure I have never used primary only with a fruit beer. However, I'd say from what I know you'd be okay to add the fruit flavoring toward end of the primary days.

Despite appearances, there are plenty of brewers here who use a secondary or bright tank. If it were me, I'd use a secondary for this beer. But yes, you can add the flavoring to the primary, after active fermentation is completed.
