I bottled about 6 oz in a 12 bottle. Worth keeping? I was going to use this a a tester bottle; will I learn anything from it?

I only bottled 3.5 gallons from the initial 5 gal beginning (lost alot when moving to secondary) so wanted to save every drop when bottling.

I think you will have difficulty racing appropriate carbonation levels with a half full bottle. I just drink any beer that doesn't fit in a full bottle :)

agreed! I just bottled up a Centennial/Cascade APA on Saturday and it smelled so nice that I was very happy when there was half a bottle leftover!

Last batch I bottled, i also had about 6oz leftover. I went ahead and bottled it anyway. Opened it any a couple weeks ago and i didnt expect much carbonation there, but there was a little. It doesnt hurt to bottle if you want too, even if it doesnt carb up, your in the same boat as you are when bottling, its flat.

Id say go ahead and drink it up.:mug:

I've found half filled bottles to be more carbonated than the full bottles. Now I just drink what's left to avoid an over carbonated bottle situation.

I have read a few cases os under filled bottles causing bottle bombs and or geysers when opened...I would drink it now rather than trying to carb it.

I've frequently carbed the last remaining 6 or 8 oz. of beer in a 12 oz. bottle with good results.

Ime,it depends on how much the partial bottle is. But I've also ben known to save it for making mop sauce to use with the bbq pit. One of my recipes for mop sauce might still be found in the meat smoking forum. works well, since it's thin,& more easily soaks into the surface of the meat.
Just another summer idea...:mug:

I usually drink the part bottle while doing my clean up or use it in cooking in athe braising liquid. Im going to have to try the mop sauce idea.

Thats why i have a few of rouges little imperial ale bottles, they are about 7 oz.They are great first beer testers.sometimes if i come up short on a bottle like 2/3 full maybe i will top off with a little water-as long as i have a good abv for that beer.My first beer to drink out of any batch is always a tester anyway.

ok....I just open a bottle of whatever I have in the fridge (beer of course)..mix it with my last 1/2 bottle of what I am bottling...cap and then drink what I opened,,,just my 2 cents

I personally love having an excuse to drink unfinished beer. I usually pull a FG sample before bottling, which is about half a glass, and then end up with another half left over at the end. I stick it in the fridge for a couple hours, then enjoy an uncarbed preview.

Like others, I look forward to half to 3/4 glass of low carbed beer to finish the bottling gig. I do mostly kegs but the bottle jobs are for the big beers, so they slide down nicely at 60f and .9 volumes of CO2. As I have grown to prefer beers at 45-55f depending on style, I make sure I have a healthy glass left to crown my accomplishments.

Normally, I bottle in 50cl glass flip tops. I also have a green plastic bottle which I fill with the extra beer. I squeeze out the air and seal. I store this bottle with the others and use it as a gauge to monitor the development of CO2. When the bottle is swollen and hard, I refrigerate it and enjoy it first.
