6 lbs. 2 row pale malt
1 lb. crystal malt 55l
1/4 lb. chocolate malt
1/4 lb. black patent malt
1/2 oz. Willamette hops (5% aa) - boil 60 mins.
1/2 oz. Styrian Goldings hops - boil last 15 mins. for flavor and aroma.
1 tsp. gypsum in mash water.
British Ale liquid yeast.
Pure grade B maple syrup in secondary.

Planning on starting this after work tomorrow. It's a 3 gallon batch. Going for an English Brown ale. Any suggestions would be great! I will let you know how it turns out as things progress.

I'll be interested to see your results. I did a 5gal mild recently with 7oz of pale chocolate and no black patent, and it came out with a noticeable roast-coffee flavor. I think that combining 8oz of chocolate and black patent in 3gal may put your toasty flavors on top of the flavor profile.

+1. the 4oz of chocolate should be plenty and I wouldn't use black patent in an english brown anyway.

It's in primary now. When I popped my white labs tube I thought I was being nice and careful but it sprayed out a bit. Had about half the vile left to pitch. If it isn't bubbling by tomorrow night I Will pitch another tube. Aroma was good during the boil, citrusy and toasty. Came out pretty dark. I will post a pic when I crack the first bottle in a few weeks.

In all its glory! Tastes smooth with a nice toasted flavor and just a hint of chocolate on the finish. Stoked to let it sit and see how it turns out in a month or so! Thanks for all the advice, pics and videos! Couldn't have done it without it:)
