I done did it! My first all grain batch is bubbling happily in my carboy. I used an Igloo Ice Cube Cooler MLT and the first bit of grains from the Syracuse group grain buy on here.:rockin:

My efficiency was a bit low (66%) but I think I'll easily be able to tune that in. The cooler worked like a champ. It was a really simple build and only lost 1-2 F during the hour mash. Can't wait to brew up the next batch... I'm trying to resist doing it today.

quite a plumbing job on that mash tun/sparge screen!

Wait til you taste it...

I don't buy beer anymore, just ingredients and brew it myself.

Enjoy.

That's my plan, I don't want to buy any beer anymore. I'm getting into kegging because I think it'll help me build a pipeline of brews.

Oh and the plumbing job was real easy - no drilling required on the cooler and a perfect seal. I'm real happy with the build.

Two thumbs up for all-grain awesomeness! It can be a lot of work (and a lot of time out of ones day), but I wouldn't trade it for any other hobby. Good times and great home made beer... :)

Amen! And in the end I dont think it took me much longer than my extract batches since I always soaked grains. I made good beer doing extract but I really enjoyed going another step back in the process this time.

welcome to the ag process. now the problem is, you'll get so used to great beer, you can't drink bmc, and have to buy craft every now and then, sometimes just to see if you like the style and want to brew 5-10 gallons of it :D nice job on the tun

Hey I dont mean to hijack the thread but is that CPVC? It looks like just pvc?

Your efficiency deficiency may be very easily factored out by what appears to be substantial dead space in your mash tun

It's cpvc.

I think my sparge wasn't hot enough and I didn't leave it soak long. My plan next time is to split my batch sparge in 2 and do it hotter -- from what I've read it makes a big diff.
