Hello,
I brewed my first all grain and got a low OG, 1.038 out of 1.058. Im curious what may have caused this? Should i have boiled it longer checking the gravity during the boil? If this is the case how to I calculate changes in when I add the hops?
Also, I calculated my efficency at about 47%, (5.5 gal batch) How could this be the case with such low OG?
Also, we used a LOT of grain, seems like more than we needed, but it was what the recipe called for. I used 2 qts / lb. 12 lbs grain so 6 gallons water. Should I have used less water allowing for more sparge, potentially raising the gravity?
Anyway, im really not worried, just curious. its fermenting right along and looks lovely. It's a heff, beautiful golden color. Can't wait to try it. I'm addicted to all grain!
