i have a Filtering question for the Guru's. I started using a 1 micron filter to clean the sediment out of my beer. After fermentation. I cold crash for a couple of days in a Corney. Then I get a fresh corney, attach the filter in between, and attach c02 to the full keg. I push the beer with co2 through the filter into the empty corney filling it up

My question is : how much co2 do you suppose it takes to push it through. I guess what i mean is, I using a 5lb c02 tank, and do you think I using a lot of c02 to do this ??

I do the same thing but use a course filter. No, it does not use a lot of gas... you only need a very few pounds of pressure to push through at a pretty quick rate.

FWIW - I am no longer filtering most of my beers; I have found that my filtered beers are crystal clear but lack flavor. I have found that filtering my pilsners is a good practice but filtering a more robust beer has back-fired.

yes, i thought about that. it is a PITA. my first filtering was a pretty robust amber ale, and it tastes great and is crystal clear

i thought about getting one of those screen filters for the kettle that fits on the backside of the kettle drain valve to limit the amount of solids that get into the fermenter. was thinking it may help.
