Can I ferment my brew in a 5 gallon water jug. You know the kind typically in an office?I found one at Walmart that has a screw on top

Depends on the type of plastic. If there is a 1 inside the triangle on the bottom it will work great, a number 2HDPE in the triangle will work as well. Anything else should just be used for water.

I think you will be fine so long as you are not doing any super acidic beers. The only problem you will run into is the smell of the last beer will remain in the bottle meaning particles are in there.

I haven't seen it affect the flavor of beer.

I have a Mr Beer too and forgot it is a 3. It's worth a shot, just make sure to limit the batch size to 4 gallons or you risk a massive blowoff.
