spot on. the BA forum has become fairly ridiculous and i've found that most of the good of the forum has gone underground in one way or another in all these side things. i definitely have done my share of stuff that needed to be moderated on any site but at the same point, much of the discipline i received made no sense and there was never a way to get details on anything other than "you wrote something and someone clicked the report link." it is just a website, but like most of us who received discipline or bannings or whatnot, they come suddenly and just lock you out from communications and your data. might seem like no big deal, but you might have trades in progress or even trips planned and losing that access can be a bit crippling (and over what...you were a bit tipsy and some ****** bag decided to go nuts on the site and you had some fun in their thread that was a ticking time bomb?). it was kind of ironic when jason had a bit of a public twitter bitchfest with citibank recently:
...i'm sure most of us who ever got the timeout/banhammer can relate to that feeling on BA.
recently todd posted something about traffic getting some crazy number of unique hits each day and when you think about it, those of us who post regularly on the site and might mix it up with some n00b flapping their gums or some vet putting down n00bs are just a pain in the ass. these guys are out at a bar having fun and their phone is buzzing because someone is drunk and picking fights on BA and people are clicking the report link. if you had 100 users who regularly made this happen and you were getting millions of unique hits everyday wouldn't you just zap the 100 pains in the asses? i mean, who really cares about 100 people who have contributed thousands of reviews, hundreds of new beers and tons of knowledge on the community when you have millions of other users? think about all of the former BAs and their contributions to both the site and the community...them getting zapped didn't change a thing other than a legacy that eventually fades away (RIP DING)
