I plan on doing a Maris Otter SMaSH in the next 2 weeks. Having a problem deciding which hop to use. I keep bouncing between Kent Goldings and Northern Brewer. I'm not going for any style just experimenting with grains and hops.

Willamette ... haven't done a SMASH with it yet, but have done a few with MO and Willamette ... love it. Fuggles or EKG would be great too.

I had a friend (RichBrewer) send me a bottle of amarillo/maris otter SmaSh. It was awesome. Not to any particular style, but an APA would be the closest. That was a terrific combination.

+1 to the Fuggles. with an O.G. of upwards of 1.080 or even higher.... IBU near 60 with a lot of late addition hops... yum!

I was in the mood to try something diffrent but this sounds really good. Do you have the hops schedule?

amarillo/maris otter SmaSh sounds good too.

I could mash the MO as a five gal batch then split it between the 2 hops.

It is good... schedule depends a lot on the %AA and the boil gravity. I like about 2 oz or so at flame out, and whatever it takes to get your IBU up at 60-min. Ages well.

First Gold? good idea! I was thinking of doing one of these "Dragon Milk" SMaSH kind of things with Golden Promise Malt, with Styrian Goldings... but First Gold would be spectacular in it. Names go together well too....
