On a lighter note, found a honey hole of Desert Ghost today. 9 bottles, $17ea. If anyone wants some for C+S, lemme know.

Yes sir!

So I have a couple cases of miscellaneous bottles from the 2010-2013 era that I sorta have segregated from the rest of the pack as suspicious of being from that “smoke incident.” I know not all of them are but ive bundled them together for my own sake of playing bottle roulette.

There are certain bottlings im positive were impacted and ive gotten into a couple of them recently with fairly promising results/enjoyment. Last night I truly had a one of a kind experience.

I opened a printemps that had a semi glossy shelton label that made me think it was likely 2012ish. No best by or lot designation area on the side of the label. It had a gold cap with that unique extra rubber grommet of o2 absorbing seal thing underneath that I quite honestly dont recall seeing much on Fantomes.

Anyway, the juice itself started off like I was drinking a menthol cigarette which kinda made me gag. After letting it sit a bit, the smoke and menthol took a back seat to lemony tartness and heavy brett-like earthiness. This is the epiotome of a true Fantome experience changing/evolving from glass to glass. It started off as a drain pour and ended as something I wish I had another bottle of to pop immediately.

Id like to think im a fairly generous person and id share/drink anything I have with anyone at any time but this experience right here almost makes me never want to share/split a bottle of Fantome again and just let the ghost show me what it got start to finish, drop by drop.

Do you think it would be beneficial to pour into a pitcher first to integrate the yeast? Or would homogenization take away from the ghost story?

This fairly new trend of Etre only getting limited Fantome stock is killing me. But I respect the 1 bottle per person limit so as many fans as possible get 1 without a ******** like me just buying a case.

I thought there was at least 2 other new Fantomes in the works. Surprised to only see this one. I think there was a new brew for the Goblin pub...wonder if it all went there and no distro at all.

Regardless, thanks for the heads up! Im 2 days late in seeing this and love that I could still reserve one.

I asked Dany about the other, think it’s all going to them. That was the Skatouch one right?

Where my Fantome OGs at? Anyone remember this beer? Released 6 years ago, I purchased it thinking it was a one-off in Dany’s Sante! series. Turns out, the brew has nothing to do with Fantome and just the artist used the Fantome Sante ghost likeness for this beers artwork.

When I unboxed this beer, I also found 2 cases of Fantomes from the late 90’s and early 2000’s.... **** is gonna get weird in the coming weeks when I crack into them.

Carbonation looks like a ‘Tome.

Last time I found cases of old tomes in my cellar, I promptly woke up and shed a tear. You sir are a legend.

Serious knowers will be reading this again as ive posted similar thoughts elsewhere as I drank through the first glass but it needs to be brought here as well.

I fell in love with this beer when it was released in 2012, those feelings remain unwaivered to this day. Ive been very fortunate to be able to check in on this one every couple of years. Its not in any way “extra sour” as the name suggests but it is indeed more tart than the usual Fantome. The tartness seems augmented by a lemon/lime juice addition with more peppercorn “heat” than ive had in any other Fantome along with a touch of alcohol warmth in the finish. This is a Fantome that could convert nonbelievers to saison/tome whores.

beerscenes and I drank some Tomes while our families spent Christmas Eve together...

This was my contribution. The cork shot out of the bottle with the corkscrew still stuck in it. Whoooooops.

Was expecting a black saison for some reason, so I was pleasantly surprised by this. Still foamy as ****, tho.

2013 bottle

We got a slow gusher here but smells like an amazing blend of belgian quad meets saison. Tastes of belgian candy sugary with peppery saison character, mineral to carbonic nature, booze and slight bitterness.

Im kinda sad opening this bottle as I dont have much left of it in reserves but from my own personal observation this is either best enjoyed fresh or with more than 5 years of age.
