I found this while walking through the bush yesterday. The legspan is over 5"...

Are you on the road? Because if you guys are growing those things north of the border I'm feelin' pretty good staying here in Central Illinois.... :D

Spiders freak me out. Count me among those that would have been searching frantically for a bat!

i have to keep the side of my pc opened up to keep it cool, there's a little spider living next to the power supply....

nice spider in the pic!

Nice Spider! Since we're sharing arachnid photos:

I hate spiders personally but these guys are too big to freak me out. Don't remember if this is the same spider. They're running all over my yard in July/Aug.

I like me some spiders. Big garden spider on my back porch (only maybe 2" across, I named it Napoleon Dynamite) caught a dozen mosquitoes one night while I grilled some pork chops - like one a minute. He/she'd run down and inject a lil poison, and wrap it up & wait there for another one.

The enemy (or predator) of my enemy is my friend.

yea desertbrew, since the monsoons started they've been everywhere here.

you can pick those guys up if you move real slow :)

Tarantulas don't bug me that much... big and bulky, like a semi, you usually see the damn thing coming unless you're passed out... it's the small little bastards that you DON'T see until they've sunk their little fangs into you that piss me off...

Cheyco's bug however... if you're walking thru the bush, not looking where you're going and you run into THAT thing.... 5" legspan? It'll probably suck dry an eye socket even before you realize it...

Ok, screw the Louisville Slugger... thinking flamethrower chock full of something particularly hideous at this point....

Oh, and DesertBrew and Chimone, yeah you guys grow some crazy Sh#% out there too... A dead scorpion floating in a pool I can live with. A vinagaroon crawling over your leg while sitting on the floor in a family room watching the tube one night?

Damn good thing I drink.... :D

May as well keep this trend friggen going. Recall me saying I don't like spiders? This is what I found this eve in the backyard with my spotlight. I need to read my camera directions to figure out clear close up shots but she was hanging in the air (the stones are clear  )

First I took her picture like a super model, then I sprayed her with insecticide, then I hit it with my shoe, and lastly I screamed like a girly man. These FREAK ME OUT. 2nd one I've seen in 7 years.

Yeah, may as well keep the drive alive...

I found this one last time I was here. I almost sat on it. It is Latrodectus Geometricus, a cousin of NA's black widow, obviously...

You obviously are skilled with the closeup. Or have a heck of a better camera than I. That Nephila is about the coolest spider I've seen. I read online that their webs are tough and have even been known to catch small birds! :rockin:

We have Brown Recluse spiders here--I know a few people who have been bitten and others who have had to have exterminators come and clean them out of their basements.

The creepy thing about them is that they just look like any old garden variety spider.
