Wow...just discovered the Indie thread a couple of hours ago and now I discover this. I haven't gone back to see what has been discussed, but will do soon.

Just in case anyone is interested, the new Daft Punk is streaming here. I'm two tracks in and am enjoying it so far. I sure hope to see them live some day...definitely a bucket-list kind of act for me.

thanks for the heads up!

Anytime! After listening to Alive '97 and '07 so much it is a little hard going back to their studio stuff, but I'm sure if and when they tour this album they will most likely blow people's minds. I still regret not being able to see them in 2006.

Can't agree more on Squarepusher.

+1,000,000

Started listening to Squarepusher back in my college radio days in the early 90s and he just keeps getting better. "Ufabulum" is incredible!

I've seen a couple of mentions of Amon Tobin, but I'm having a hard time getting into the ISAM stuff. Visually it is great but I find the music lacking a little. The new Two Fingers does a lot more for me though.

There is some good taste in this thread! Looking forward to hearing about some artists I don't know.

Has anyone here checked out the new Daft Punk yet? Definitely kind of a disco throwback, but for the most part I'm loving it. There are a couple of songs that don't do it for me, but I'm finding myself at work nodding my head along with most of it. I really hope they will do another tour...very interested to see what they would do with these songs live.

If the link I posted a couple of days ago isn't working the album is now streaming for free on iTunes.

I thought I was an electronic music fan, but didn't know most anything above other than the fun Beats Antique and the ok Daft Punk.
So I googled, and found the Wikipedia page.
Yes, I was right, I do like electronic music, particularly:
Edgard Varèse
Karlheinz Stockhausen
John Cage
Milton Babbitt
Mario Davidovsky
Frank Zappa
Iannis Xenakis
Delia Derbyshire
Terry Riley
Wendy Carlos
Andrew Kazdin and Thomas Z. Shepard
Tangarine Dream
Brian Eno
Isao Tomita

And Laurie Anderson is fabulous.

Years ago on youtube this guy Tae Kim asked me to listen to his stuff. I liked it. Best song in my opinion, with the funniest name, was "Your Mom Loves This Beat"

For downtempo you gotta go with the classics: Air, Boards of Canada, Cinematic Orchestra, DJ Shadow, Dntel, Jaffa, Jazzanova, Kid Loco, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Massive Attack, Peace Orchestra, Portishead, St. Germain, Thievery Corporation, Tosca, Tricky, Zero 7.

I haven't listened to drum & bass since the early to mid aughts, when it started going haywire...but at it's peak, DJ Dara, DJ Zinc, Boymerang, Ed Rush & Optical, Grooverider, High Contrast, Jonny L, Kosheen, Krust, Die, Roni Size, Pascal, DJ Hype, Photek, Source Direct. All great artists.

For straight up good dance tunes, there's lots of good stuff coming out all the time. If you're looking for newer stuff: Bag Raiders (they are amazing), Casiokids, Deadmau5, Hot Chip, I Monster, The Juan MacLean, LCD Soundsystem, Holy Ghost!, Crystal Castles, Grimes, Hey Champ, and Beat Connection.

very interested to see what they would do with these songs live.

Daft Punk live is the best. I saw them in 1997 at the El Rey in Los Angeles. Daft Punk, Rammstein, Sick of it All, The Ramones, and My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult...best live bands I've ever seen.

Dangit, I had a long post typed out, and it got erased. (Switched tabs on android chrome)

Anyways, I have been very much into dubstep lately. Love some bassnectar, pendulum, and to be cliche, skrillex (scary monsters and nice sprites is my favorite), knife party (centipede is my fav, but internet friends is good too), and one particular deadmau5 song that's not dubstep, but sounds kinda like a midi.

Heard a cool song called "dubwoofer substep" this weekend while brewing with a buddy. I think he found it on spotify on his phone.

And here's a nice video that's not nose-bleedingly dubstep, but is a beautiful violin piece. The artist ain't too shabby either ;)

If you don't know, now you know...F*ckbuttons. Listen to them. Either loud or with headphones. Start with Tarot Sport.

Found the dubwoofer substep song. Artist called Omnitica.

One more since I mentioned them a few posts back...

Moderators: please don't punish me...it is the name of the artist.

Had this cranked up in the car today ... even without a subwoofer it fairly stomps. Gotta turn up the volume to hear this properly.

It's the Home Depot commercial that never was ... an oldie but a goodie.
Benny Benassi - Satisfaction

LOL

When I think of Electronic Music I think of:
John Cage
Karlheinz Stockhausen
Edgard Varèse
Iannis Xenakis

Then again, I have a different musical background.

New album from the F**kbuttons in July. Here is the first single. Enjoy!

Has anyone had any luck embedding Soundcloud? I tried here, but the Soundcloud box came up saying the track was unavailable.

It has been a little quiet in here lately. Here's a little something you might like. Vince Clark and Martin Gore of Depeche Mode fame.

I was hoping to find a full Mr. Oizo Lambs Anger to share, but YouTube only has the individual videos. Check it out.

Anyone here fans of LCD Soundsystem?

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/gJ2np7R-Uwg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Love, love, love, love, love LCD Soundsystem. 'This is Happening' is nothing short of brilliant. I was laying in bed the first time I listened to the album. When the beat kicked in on 'Dance Yrself Clean' I immediately knew this would be an amazing album. The way they bring the little 'ahhhh' vocal element from 'Dance Yrself Clean' back in 'Home'...so simple, but so perfect. So glad that I got to see them on the last tour. Fingers are crossed that they will someday play together again.

They are amazing. Murphy can write a hell of a song can't he? I think my favorite is "You Wanted a Hit"

All of the DFA bands are great. I frickin' love Holy Ghost! and The Juan MacLean.

You can stream the new F**buttons album here. Work computer security won't let me get on Pitchfork but hopefully someone else can enjoy this album. My wife and temporary roomate both say it is pretty great.

Here's a little old school D&B/jungle for a Friday morning. The full album is on YouTube. Enjoy!
