I just spent the last couple months building my new eHERMS system and completed it late last week. I spent this past weekend putting it through its paces to make sure everything was working properly. It worked perfectly! I ran 2 "mock batches" through the whole system with just water and everything was purring like a kitten...

While on my way home tonight I stopped off at my LHBS and picked up everything for my inaugural batch in my new system and headed home. I went and filled up the HLT with water and fired up my beautiful (to me at least) control panel. The lights come on and I went to switch on the HLT and.....nothing! Well, almost nothing. I heard the contactor "clunk" as it should but the LED for the HLT didn't light up and the element didn't fire either.

I unplugged the HLT cord from the control panel and turned the HLT switch on. To my amazement the HLT LED lit up so I put the plug back in and tried to turn it on again. Same result again...no LED or element firing.

The LED will only come on without the element cord plugged in. If the element cord is plugged in, the LED won't come on. In both situations I can definitely hear the "clunk" of the contactor when I turn on the switch. It's almost like it can't take the load of the element all of a sudden???

As a side note, I plugged in a drill into one of the pump receptacles and it worked. Obviously a load (at least 110v) works through the system. I also checked all wiring pertaining to the contactors and nothing seems out of place.

Please help....my new toy awaits!!!

Below are two pictures outlining my issue.

I just went out and "fiddled" around with it again and decided to plug in the RTD thermo and voila, it worked! I guess the Auberins PID has a feature that won't allow the element to fire unless the thermo is plugged in?

Not sure about the fix to your problem, I just wanted to chime in and say that's a damn good looking control panel! Haha

Yes, every. PID I 've seen won't fire if thermo sensor isn't connected. .
