(No this is not a rant against others from another country - this is about the little amphibians FROGS)

My daughter decided to call me yesterday at work to let me know that she wanted to get some frogs now. Of course its okay with mommy (so its pretty much gospel) and it annoys the **** out of me.

This of course comes on the clever marketing of insectlore and their damn catalog that showed up in the mail the other day. Yes, we bought the live ladybug kit a while back and that was pretty neat. (Did a refill too) But now she is hung up on the fact that she wants FRIGGIN FROGS!!!

I Have a better solution (compromise)
Woooooo she hates this **** :p

I checked out the cockroaches.... they might be kinda fun... but cmon man, you know you're going to lose.... just buy the friggen frogs. The sooner you get em, the sooner she'll get bored with them, the sooner you can flush the little bastards down the can.

Some things are just not worth fighting... like wives & daughters

I know the feeling, I have two rabbits at home that have taken over a room and ruined the carpet in there. Wife wanted them, she always wanted rabbits. They can be a real PITA sometimes. Now says that if she knew how much trouble they would be she wouldn't have done it, the house isn't suited at all for keeping them.

The frogs aren't the issue.... The issue comes from the crickets you feed them. They will chirp and get loose in your house.

Had a barking tree frog for over a year and it was great! Low maintenance and fun to listen to(except at 3am!!)

Keep in mind that your local baitshop will carry crickets too. We found a bait shop that would sell us ~8 for 25cents!! We would pick them up weekly to have fresh ones and I got to catch the crickets myself. Twas fun! Yes they would catch them for me but I felt bad for a 25cent sale and them doing all the work.

Good luck

I got a tasty solution to that problem! :mug:

Your handle is WAY too appropriate for that. One of them is named Homer.

C'mon man, let the kid have some fun with frogs. I don't really know anything about being a parent but I think it is good to encourage kids to pursue their interests before their interests become sex, drugs, and misspelled tattoos.

What kind of frogs are these? I used to keep poison dart frogs, nicely set up terrariums and all, and they were a little hassle, but well worth it. We fed them wingless fruit fly's, no noise and you can culture them yourself. A little investment, but hours of entertainment.

I used to catch toads add keep them in a terrarium with a pool- MUCH easier; but really, frogs aren't that bad- Heck, my iguana was easy to take care off, but I still remember when I came home from my first job and finding the cage empty smelling like car exhaust...

Don't be that dad (although I LOVE my dad now more then my mom)...

Easiest frogs to keep are african dwarf frogs. Get a little 5 gallon aquarium, put two frogs and three guppies in there. Keep it warm with a small heater, and you're golden.

Why not get her a toad instead? I hear there's one that's got a soothing drone about i-ALL HAIL HYPNOTOAD

Frogs, hamsters, parakeets, puppies, kittens, etc... It's kind of a kid's "right of passage" thing. I only ever met 1 person who never had a pet of any kind. I think it's good for kids to have a pet, even though it might be a PITA for their parents once in a while; I think it's part of being a parent. If it makes you feel any better, go have some frog legs at a restaurant, they really are tasty! :D

seriously your worried bout some dang frogs? my kids used to bring them in daily, had to check their pockets before washing for various critters, frogs worms rocks snakes even.

terrariums and some ice fishing waxworm or mealworms work fine, no crickets to get loose and drive you nuts.:D

When my kids were young, the local grocery was giving away Goldfish. So I brought home two. Thinking that these two parking lot, water tank Goldfish would last a week or two. They showed me, lived at least two years maybe three. I mean these things lasted forever. Got to be a challenge to see how long we could keep them alive. Kids named them Shut the Door, and Bummer. Kids were young and the names seemed appropriate to them. PITA at times but one of the great memories of their childhood.

I know it's not frogs but the point is still the same. Enjoy the kids and all that goes with them.

I had a rule regarding pets when my kids were small. Pretty much anything was ok unless it sarted with the letter R. That ruled out rodents, rabbits and reptiles. "You want something else we'll talk, but nothing that starts with R."

that is a great rule. pretty much everything that starts with 'R' is not a good pet. the only exception with this list is rottweiler.
