I have seen a few reviews on the Blichmann ebiab kettle with bottom drain from Bobby at brewhardware.com. Has anyone purchased the "get tanked" version with the spike bottom draining kettle that Bobby also sells? If so can you share your honest thoughts on that system? I'm trying to decide on whether to modify my existing blichmann kettle vs purchase a new setup that has a bottom drain.

I've got Bobby's Get Tanked setup and could not be any happier. I've got the 15 gallon and even at that size I wouldn't want to do without the bottom drain as my CIP cleanup routine is quite easy and I'd hate it if I had to manhandle the kettle I think Bobby did a great job selecting components in his package - the fact that he's vendor agnostic has allowed him to select the best from different vendors. I've got it on a cart that is 24" and find that the ergonomics works quite well for me. I started with a higher cart so I'm glad I don't have to drill holes in the table top to accommodate the bottom drain. Zero regrets with this setup. Let me know if you have any specific questions

I didn't think I was going to care about bottom draining something as small as a 15G but I was wrong. I won't/can't ever go back to heaving the kettle around for cleaning.

RE: Tank vs. Blich.

IF you don't mind cutting your own hole in the brewing table, I like the Blichmann primarily because you get the sightglass and I think it looks better sitting directly on the table.. If you absolutely cannot or do not want to make a hole in a table, you would have to go with the tank.

Edit for clarity. Both the TANK and the bottom drain Blich will fully drain after cleaning. The only compromise I make on the blichmann is to tilt the table forward a hair. I mean 1/4" higher in the back than the front of a 24" deep table. That's enough to fully drain it.

I don't have his, and only because I started my system before he started putting these together, but the latest iteration of my system is a 15G Tank and I love it. Its so much easier to rinse out trub and hops and to final rinse. I virtually never move it.
