Just wondering ive read different opinions on other sites but i trust HBT more so ill ask here...
Is it safe to dump your wort sample back in? I sanitized everything so im thinking im in the clear

If your sanitation is on point... it should be fine. I wouldn't though.

Unless you're doing 1 or 2.5 gallon batches I would have to ask, why?

Drink that stuff man!

Lol . Its a 5 gallon batch and i did poor some in a glass to taste and have notes... i guess in himd sight i should of just drank it all.. better safe than sorry from now on

I always drink mine. Not worth the risk. And, really, what are you saving, like 12 ounces of finished beer, give or take?

12 oz? Probably around 6.

6 oz vs. possibly tainting 5 gal?

Like I said OP, you're probably fine, but from now on drink up.

That's one of my favorite parts.

Me, Standing in the kitchen drinking from a test tube is pretty much how my wife decided I was doing this thing for real.

My sample is 5 to 6 ozs. I always drink it. While the hydrometer reading is important, I think you learn a lot more about the beer from the bit you drink.

Just isn't worth the risk pouring it back, and since you are drinking it, it is not wasted.

If you're confident that you hit your FG, bottle like you typically do and when you get to the bottom and only have half a bottle of beer left - take your FG reading and then drink that up.

I pour it in a bottle and then top off after filling the rest of the bottles. I then mark it as hydro sample. That way if contaminated I don't loose the batch.

12 oz total assuming you take a couple of samples to make sure you've hit FG. Or maybe you just take big samples to be damn sure it tastes good:mug:. Quality control is important:D.

+1

My primary purpose for pulling a sample is to taste it. While I'm at it, I take a gravity reading. Then I drink it.

Yeah... I only take one sample at kegging time, so I wasn't thinking about the multiple samples.

Not a big risk if you clean and santise your equipment.

However you'll be adding oxygen, which should always be avoided.
