dry hop without bag ?

want to transfer pale ale into secondary and dry hop with pellet hops however wont be able to obtain nylon bag to keep pellets in. Can
I just dump pellets in carboy and rack on top of them. Will this create problems?

I throw mine in the primary about a week before I bottle. No bag, no worries

Yep, I dry hop with pellets sometimes. I've never used a hop bag for it. Pellets will break apart and should end up on the bottom by the time you rack to your bottling bucket or keg. Just siphon carefully and you should not have any issues.

I never use a bag to dry hop. To help in getting the hop particles to settle before you rack for bottling/kegging, I cold crash the secondary. Cold crash means what it implies. I stick the whole fermenter into a refrigerator. After a few days the beer will be crystal clear.

thanks i wont worry about it anymore ! plan on throwing in 1/2 oz of sumitt, centennial and amarillo. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I hated it i had a big mess tried using a filter over the siphon,and that was a mistake.Ill stick to a hop bag.Much cleaner.

Did it once and won't ever do it again. There were still some pellet parts in suspension when I racked and they went into the keg. Had to deal with a clogged keg. Huge pain, not worth skipping the bag IMO.

I won't use pellets for dry hopping for same reasons as above. You can do it if you're EXTRA careful in siphoning and it sets for a week or preferrably 2 for dry hopping to settle into yeast cake.

My preference is to avoid pellets completely and dry hop with whole hops. Less Messy and easier to clean up.

I dry hop in the primary with pellets all the time and don't have a problem at all. Never had a problem getting clear beer. Just be careful racking to the bottling bucket and you'll be good to go.
