Ok, so here's the deal:
I've been doing my research, biding my time and I'm FINALLY in a place where I can start this project!!!
This project is precisely what it says on the tin: a project log of my Keezer build. Specifically, my adaptation of Jester's project seen here: Jester's Keezer
I plan on only having 5 taps, instead of the 7 that Jester ended up with. Hopefully that will leave me enough room to lager a batch while still having all 5 kegs hooked up.
Jester was kind enough to provide me with his SketchUp files for his project, which will allow me to adapt them to my specific needs. Luckily, not too much needs changing as I went out and bought the same chest freezer that he used!
Here is the progress as it currently stands:
You can see that I've got the temp controller hooked up. I really like the Ranco controller that I bought. Wasn't too expensive and it gives a lot of control. **Note: I didn't realize I had to do any wiring when I bought the thing. Didn't end up being a problem, but was still a shock when I was looking for the plug on the thing.
Now on the bottom left of the freezer you can see the small black display. I believe that this is a 3rd party temp controller that the previous owner (bought it off Craigslist). This is my current source of misery. For the life of me, I cannot figure out how the darn thing works. It wouldn't be a problem, if it didn't just shut off the entire freezer even when the temp controller is trying to power it.
So, my next step is to pull open the side panel and see if there is a way of removing/bypassing it. Obviously this is something that I need to sort out before I build the housing around it as my current fix is just tapping the heck out of the control panel (works surprisingly well).
Also, as I go through this, I'll be keeping a detailed budget of all my expenditures. Some things I already had (keg, CO2) but for the most part I'd like to account for most costs. I may just do a Google spreadsheet so people can view it as the project grows, or just screenshot the Excel spreadsheet I have going, we will see.
Anyway, I look forward to the challenge of the project and hope it turns out half as nice as Jesters!
Slainte!
