I just got back from Shenendoah Brewery in Alexandria, VA. Had a Chocolate Donut Stout. The best beer EVER. And I don't even like stout.

Donuts + Beer = Heaven

Does anyone have a recipe that would match the taste of this awesomeness?

Came home with a growler full.

(Also, when I came home. I got a coupon in the mail for a free burrito from Chipotle. Best Day Ever!!!!!!)

Just saw in a blog that someone was thinking it was a chocolate stout with some vanilla extract added. I would definitely be curious in trying a bottle. Don't know that I could handle any more than that, but it definitely sounds like a good after dinner drink.

Vanilla may be it... I'll have to think about it as I drink the rest.... you would think it would be too sweet. But its really drinkable.

Not sure, I just went to get my growlers filled up. Then I couldn't help but have a few beers off tap and enjoy the smell of a dozen people brewing. Not quite sure they would just give me the recipe.

Sorry to revive such an old thread, but I was at Shenandoah recently and I freaking love their Chocolate Donut Stout. I bought a growler. I asked about making a batch and the guy behind the bar told me that while it was possible, he doubted I'd really want a whole batch of it, noting that the overly sweet taste would turn most people off after the first or second beer. When I asked another person there about the recipe, she said it was secret. Maybe they just give you the mixings combined so you can't quite know what it is your making it with?

Maybe it's just me, but I imagine I could down quite a few of these. I may have to start working on a clone at some point. Anybody else try to mimic something like this?

man that beer sounds interesting...is it the chocolate/vanilla flavors that people appreciate or does it actually have a donut (the doughy part) flavor as well? I have a friend who lives up that way and am going to see if he might want to send me some to see :)

I'm not great at articulating flavors, but to me it tastes just like a chocolate donut would in liquid form. I've looked around online a bit and others have commented on a vanilla finish.

A local paper that reviewed it said it was an "oatmeal stout" with a proprietary flavoring added. Another site says the brewery claims it's made using chocolate malts and actual chocolate, with essence of donut added by top-secret method.

I'm just bummed I discovered it shortly before moving out of the area.
