I got this recipe for Xmas and am not seeing any recipe like this. Most are 9-10 dme with partial grains. This recipe has 4 3pound bags of DME that came with it. No instructions. I've brewed my share of beer so I get the gist..just not sure I should add it all to the boil

Am I right here
Steep the couple pounds of grains in 1.75 gallons of water until conversion is complete. This is where I'm lost. For a five gallon batch should I add 6-7 gallons(temp????), then add DME, then bring to a boil for hop additions. I think maybe even 8 gallons..any help is greatly appreciated thanks

What couple pounds of grain are you steeping? Two pounds of a C grain would be a bit much.

I would steep the grains in the full volume (7 gallons) at 160'. I would add one bag of DME at the beginning of your boil and save the last two for flameout.

If there's a brand on the kit I'd do a search to find a web site for either the maker of the kit or a distributor. One, or both, of the sites should have instructions available. Following the instructions usually will get you closer to the intended results.
