Sorry, I'm not so strong on sciencey/math stuff.
OK, so water weighs 8.33 or 8.34 pounds per gallon.
I know it changes volume when heated, what about weight?
Will it weigh the same when it's boiling as it would at 60^?
I just had the idea about putting a weight sensor under a pot and using that to figure out your water volumes in a BIAB setup- pre-mash, pre-boil and post boil volumes.

Simply put. Yes. Ignoring losses to steam etc.

Once you have added grain and have wort, you need to calculate the weight of the added sugars. Beersmith has a calculator for this.

Cheers,
Max

the water will weigh the same, but take up more space as it reaches 200+ degrees. So its a question of density. It will weigh less per cubic foot at high temps, but still the same overall. Even then , I think its about a 3% difference from room temp to almost boiling.

As long as your sensor can stand the heat, it might work, though some trial and error would be needed

I'm using an induction burner for 2.5-3g batches.
I was thinking I could put the sensor under the whole kit and kaboodle, then zero it out and away I go!
