Received a new 36" Winco wood paddle for Christmas. It currently doesn't have any holes in it like I typically see in mash paddles so I'm wondering if I should drill some of my own. Does it make much of a difference for stirring the mash?
I have been using a SS mash paddle for years without any issues. No holes in it.
Depending on how thick your mash is I would guess the holes may help break up any clumps, I normally mix it pretty good and also have a long SS spoon that I dough in with.
Just make sure you mix well enough and your good to go.
