Is there a difference? I'd think it was just a hef that was filtered.

I've only had the style once or twice, I did think that it was a bit more pilsner like than weizen like. I just chalked that up to the lack of yeast in suspension in the past.
 
You could probably add some gelatin to help the yeast drop out more quickly.
 
6.5# Liquid wheat extract
1oz Hallertau @ 60 min
Wyeast 3638 Bavarian wheat
Irish moss at 15 min before flameout
gelatin at kegging
