1st day in the kegging game, so forgive the super noob question. as the title states, any reason i would need to bring my regulator with me when i get my tank filled or is it okay to just bring the tank?

thanks!

no you don't. And for safety sake, never transport a compressed gas cylinder with the regulator installed.

Additionally, don't leave it in your car for long. On hot days the pressure will build up and you could end up with at best a car full of CO2.

Thanks for adding that !! This is very true, I have been standing next to a 5lb. cylinder when the burst disk (safety relief device) did it's job. It vented to atmosphere its entire contents in about 3 seconds. I required a new set of shorts after that.

Should I be worried about transporting my CO2 on the subway? It can get pretty hot walking from the Gas supplier to the subway.

No, extended periods in a passenger compartment or trunk/inclosed truck bed of a car/trucks are where the troubles starts. I would suggest looking into the possibility of transporting non-prescription (med 02) compressed gas cylinders on NYC public transportation. Better safe than interrogated!

Thanks. That made me really laugh.

That should not be any problem at all. Be sure to bring something to carry it in as you don't want it slipping out of your hands.

The issue of leaving it in a car: The temperature in the car can go to 140° in short order. That will most certainly cause the safety disk to rupture.

If I was taking it on public transit, I'd toss it in a book bag and onto my back. Just avoid any hassle.

Good tip assuming you bought a 5lb tank. If you bought a 20lb like me, put on some scuba gear, strap it to your back and say your gonna go diving in the Hudson. Works every time ;)
