DIY stir plate using buckyballs on the fan

Has anybody tried using Buckyballs as the magnets on the fan of their DIY stir plate?

I cannot recall reading of anyone on HBT using spherical magnets - for anything - over the last ~five years.

fwiw, I'd think permanently mounting ball magnets with no visible way of determining polarity would be a pita.
Flat bar magnets are so much easier to use...
