Hey all,

I'm preparing my soil for next years hop rhizome planting season. I would have done it this year but I had just moved home from college and didn't have a good idea of what I was doing yet.

I think I understand enough to take the leap for next year, however, I have yet to find a thread on here that explains the optimum direction to plant the hops.

From what I've gathered, you want the hops to have the most sun exposure as possible, and since they follow the sun (hence the clockwise growth and training). Does this mean I should plant my rhizomes in rows that run north-south so that they all get equal amounts of sunlight? I am going to be setting up a trellis that features two large posts with cable spanning horizontally and vertically.

Thanks!

i would plant them in whatever direction that gives equal sunlight to all the plants otherwise you might end up with ones the never do quite as well as the others, i have mine planted in a straight line getting equal sun light
