I just brewed a nice smelling porter in my new 10 gal pot and new burner. I was unsure of boil off with the new combo and apparently over estimated it. I was shooting for ~5.5 gal into the carboy but ended up in the 6-6.5 gal area. The OG was obviously low (1.042), which does not matter much to me as I can spike it/ add malt to it later.
My question is: Does having a diluted beer change the taste? Is my tasty smelling porter going to taste watered down? Will my IBU's be noticeably lower? Are there recovery methods to above issues?
Recipe (if that matters):
7.7# Pale
1.54# Wheat
.66# Chocolate
.44# Munich 20L
.44# Crystal 120L
.17# Flaked Barley
.06# Roasted Barley
total #= 11#
Mashed for 45min at 155f
Bottom line, I am going to drink it still...just curious.
