I have a boil keggle getting ready to come on line. I have 50 feet of 1/2 copper tube to build IC. Seems I would want the make my IC the max diameter to fit within the keggle to max surface contact. How much space should I leave between IC coil and keggle wall?

What's the inside diameter of the cutout on top of your keg? That'd pretty much set the maximum diameter of an IC.

If you leave a couple or three inches of gap to the keggle walls, it'll help if you ever decide to whirlpool your IC. I haven't been keeping count, but it seems most folks just wrap the tubing around a corney keg and call it done...

Cheers!

You want at least 2 inches. If it's closer than that, you'll not get good heat circulation on the outside, and that will reduce your cooling efficiency.

Without calculating, I'd guess you want to have roughly equal volumes inside and outside the coil, but I haven't thought too hard about that. Probably not worth overthinking it, and just go with 2-3 inches or so.
