Bump, this looks delicious. Going to do this one up this weekend if time allows. Will add the final ingredients at 0.0 in boil to keep it simple and since others have stated it makes little difference.

Put a batch of this down on Canada Day. I did the Young's version (more lactose, less IBU's). This is my second attempt at this recipe. I messed something up the last time I made this and got an infection (gusher's and a weird taste). Hopefully this time will turn out better. I'll try to remember to report back with my results (won't be for a couple of month's at least).

This is my first attempt at an all grain brew. I followed the Youngs recipe and locked it up on Sunday but I still see nothing. Should I be concerned? Also, what should I use at bottling to carbonate if anything?

I just brewed this today. My OG ended up being a little higher at 1.055. Hopefully it still turns out. Can't wait to try it out.

Back with a report (long overdue).

A couple of days ago I did a quick inventory and realized I only had 8 bottles of this left and hadn't got around to doing a side by side with Young's Double Chocolate Stout. Today I dropped into the liquor store to grab a bottle of Young's.

Except for the fact that the YDCS is better carbonated than mine I'm having a hard time telling the difference and deciding which one tastes better.

Back in 2012 I started home brewing with the hopes I'd eventually be able to brew a decent version of YDBS since I was blowing so much cash on it ($4.50CDN per 500ml bottle in my area). Since then I've made a lot of beer (and branched out into wine and cider) that I have really enjoyed but haven't really made a chocolate stout that met my original goal.

This is (finally) it. Thanks BarleyWater.
