So, I'm so irritated at this stupid hydrometer. I use a refractometer pre fermentation and use one of my my trusty hydrometers to check og (have a few in the drawer). My 16 gal batch of porter finished after a wild fermentation (WLP007) at 1.019. I figured it had a little more to go and upped the temp a few degrees before I left for a week of vacation.
So, when I get home I recheck the gravity and it's still at 1.019! Worried, I tried a quick fix of adding a small starter at high krausen to try to knock down a couple more points. No activity all day.
So, I figured I should check the hydrometer for accuracy and sure enough - water came in at 1.003. My final gravity was fine. Just need to throw out that damned hydrometer...
