So, I'm so irritated at this stupid hydrometer. I use a refractometer pre fermentation and use one of my my trusty hydrometers to check og (have a few in the drawer). My 16 gal batch of porter finished after a wild fermentation (WLP007) at 1.019. I figured it had a little more to go and upped the temp a few degrees before I left for a week of vacation.

So, when I get home I recheck the gravity and it's still at 1.019! Worried, I tried a quick fix of adding a small starter at high krausen to try to knock down a couple more points. No activity all day.

So, I figured I should check the hydrometer for accuracy and sure enough - water came in at 1.003. My final gravity was fine. Just need to throw out that damned hydrometer...

Yeah, I thought of that. I happen to have a couple others so I figured I'd toss this one after the headache. Maybe I'll just mark it with a sharpie.

Mark it and keep as a spare. Once you break one, the others may start to follow suit... You've seen the compendium.

I have 3 and none are spot on. Of course, my favorite one broke, it was the easiest to read.
