OK, I'm back. We had a bad storm that knocked the electricity out for a day or so, and the AC unit is DOA.

Let's see...where do I start?

1. Frankfurtvr4 comment: Really?

In what way? Yes, everything I said is true. (And I agree, we may all be retarded...;))

2. brewagentjay comment: Medals...other than the 2 Good Conduct, National Defense and Kosovo medal (placed in grandsons casket), Expert Marksmanship badge nothing outstanding. Medals are nice, but usually don't tell the entire truth and require a commander submit a write-up for approval. My greatest rewards were all the "thanks" I received from the thousands of soldiers I've taught small arms and artillery to over the years.

I do have 2 binders of Certificates of Achievements and other awards, but I don't have an "I Love Me" wall with them plastered all over. At retirement I received a Flag box. The flag was flown over the White House. You are only eligible to get them after 35 years service. I also received a certificate from Barack O. for retirement. I also have 16 Commanders Coins, most notably, 2 are from 2 Star Generals, 1 from a Col, and 2 from a Lt. Col.

I apologize for putting a kink in your entertainment...see electricity out note above...I hope you got some work done.

OK, so what have you done to support this country? ;)

BargainMugs: Thanks for the Sidney Frank info...:mug:

MeatyPortion: +1 on those drinks. :drunk:

Chriso: Yes, I like them. We can still buy Horehound candy at Farm & Fleet. :rockin:

I think that covers everyone...oh, yeah, wasn't there a Marine in this discussion earlier?

It is really nice to see that you have so much pride in your NDSM's and your past as gun bunny support but I am really not super impressed with your write-ups or attitude. I too have done Bosnia and Kosovo as well as two tours in Iraq and am walking out the door to Afgan in three weeks. I woud never, ever talk to any the way you did or throw my service in thier face. What the hell have you done lately?

I slammed a boot in about 15 seconds, then puked my guts out. Needless to say, I never did it again.

I really don't give a rats ass about what you think of my attitude. It's my attitude so get over yourself.

Until you give 36+ years of your life in service to this country I don't want to hear it.

Now, go and keep your head down.

Hopefully this crap with North Korea deescalates or we might all end up making rice wine in fallout shelters...there's no way they're getting my bacon...

I don't think Soju and bacon are compatable...;)

If they do cross the border it's probably not an attack as much as someone's pushing them from behind or they're looking for a meal and electricity (reference the satellite image of the globe at night...S. Koreas is lit up like a Christmas tree and N. Korea has no lights)...:D

You give fourteen on active duty during wartime and I will give start to think you have something to say. I am having a huge problem right now with troops with a deployment behind thier back now that think they are owed something by others that have not served. We chose to live this life for a reason, if yours was to have something to hold over someone else's head I feel really bad for you.

My service was voluntary also. I joined during the draft at 17 and stayed until 25. I was years away from having to do anything, but I did it anyway. Eventhough I was in during Nam and they didn't send me is not my fault...it's the luck of the draw. Apparently, that didn't stop people in CA and NY from spitting at me and calling me a "baby killer". But that didn't deter me.

Just for ****s and giggles, where were you when I was active during 1972-1980? My service time ended on 3 Jun 2010. 1972-2010 was my time. Now it's your time. And when you leave service it'll be someone else's time. After that "this time" will be your glory days.

I am not holding anything over anyone's head. Life's too short for BS. ;)

I didn't mean to take this too far. However, it was fun. For those are over in the big sandbox, be careful and be confident in every action and you'll be fine.

My comments were simply that nothing not even 36+ years of service to your country gives anyone the right to act like they are above anyone else with they served their country or not. (Again just my opinion)

Bacon is good.

Beer is better.

Life is rough.

So work hard and play harder.

Semper Fi.

I just like to hear stories from the old timers (no offense). It's always crazy to see how bad things were and how things are still similar. You're not really that old but there's a lot of life experience there. If you're interested in even older experiences...Band of Brothers is a great series if any of you haven't seen it. I want to see The Pacific but haven't (no HBO) and won't rent it because I want to buy it as a box set. If you can, check it out too.

I just got back from the grocery store, and you know how they have those summer grilling guides, BBQ cookbook magazines, etc in the checkout lane? They had a bacon cookbook hahaha...

That's A way. Was thinking of hanging some bacon inside the keg for a few days in a bag with non-flavored dental floss.. I think baking it in the oven for a while then squeezing the hell out of it with a papertowl until the fat is drained off would be a good start. I just was wondering if anyone else has a better way.

The best part of bacon flavor is the smokiness. So you could use a Rauchmalt (smoked malt) in the process and come up with a smoked beer. I've had a few and they are surprisingly (or not) delicious. Not quite bacon beer, but still very good.

So I still say to eat some bacon, and drink some (smoked) beer. You can buy smoked malt or make your own on a grill or smoker.

I made a beer with smoked hickory malt (did it myself). There's a thread on it somewhere, but I can't be bothered to find it (at least I'm honest!) It probably would have turned out well if it hadn't been Easter and late and I was the closest to drunk that I've ever brewed and so it wound up being like 8% and way too intense, in both body/alcohol and smoke. I'd like to try it again but haven't gotten around to it.

Bacon is totally a pre-boil ingredient.

I recommend cooking it, then finely chopping it in a food processor, and adding perhaps 1/2# or 1# into your mash for the full duration.

(Or, you can ask Reverend JC about the Cali Steam Beer he did using Bratwurst in the mash, it was damned tasty!)
