Well tonight while drinking a sixer I experienced an event...

Opening a bottle of brew (not homebrew) I popped a side and got the woosh of co2 but it didn't open. Switched sides and tried to open the bottle... got it open but slices the **** outta my finger. As blood dripped on my kitchen table I looked at the bottle...

Completely cracked... anyone seen this before. Its from a more local brewer not a bmc. Its an ipa...

It happens. Like any manufactured* product, some percentage of everything fails. This bottle may have been inherently weak and escaped the bottle maker & the brewery's quality control procedures. And depending on how you opened it, your bottle opener might have applied pressure to the glass rather than just to the crown cap.

Sorry about your finger though, hope it wasn't too bad.

* PS - that's not a knock on commercial brewers -- I consider even our homebrew a "manufactured product" subject to a hell of a lot more variance usually than the pros. Just pointing out that "zero failure" is a goal, but an unattainable one.

I'm def. Not knocking the mfg. It was the first time I experienced it and was just kinda in a "did that really happen" state of mind. Its good to know its rare but can happen and its not just me.

This has happened to me. It was a while back but I assumed I just applied pressure to glass rather than the cap. I try to be a bit more careful opening bottles now.
