Hi all,

I've had a good search around to see whether anyone has asked this question already but all the posts I've found seem to be describing white lumps on the surface (my lumps are brown)and don't look like what I have.

This is an irish red, its been in the primary now for 3 weeks, I used Nottingham.

I was planning on bottling this week as its been just over 3 weeks now but I'm not sure whether I need to wait a bit longer in order for whatever this is to drop? I've got the feeling its just yeast but I'm a bit confused as to why its still floating about after 3 weeks.

This stuff has been on top since the krausen dropped about 2.5 weeks ago. Shall I just go ahead and bottle and just try to avoid sucking this stuff up or shall I take some form of action to remove it? I'm not worried about the beer but as a new brewer i'd just like to be able to identify these things for future reference.

Just residual yeast. If you're at a stable FG go ahead and package the beer. There's 0 to worry about with this.

Thought that may be the case :D
Shall I try and leave it all behind or will it sink when bottled? I always leave a bit at the bottom of the bottle to avoid pouring sediment anyway.
Just don't want to lose too much beer to trying to leave this yeast behind, beer is precious! :p

Just bottle as usual. Even if it makes it into your beer, you put yeast in your beer to carbonate anyway. It will have no impact on your beer.
 
Cool thanks. Yeah just meant more in case there were lumps of yeast floating about in the final product. I know it wouldn't have an impact on flavour, just people I give beers out to may be a bit put off by them floating around.

Ill rack and bottle as normal :mug:
 
They won't stay floating around forever. Eventually they'll drop to the bottom of the bottles, especially once they are in the fridge for a while.

The yeast will drop to the bottom of the bottle as soon as you refrigerate. None of that will be floating in the beer.
