Just found a scrap yard near me and got a little too excited about the money i could save on builds and brewing projects.

I found a big pile of corny kegs, but none of them had lids. It turned out they were $20 bucks (which seemed high to me).

Are these a rip off? is there a place to get lids?

All the links i have found only have replacement valves and rings.

That seems rather high, given the price of new lids plus o-ring kits. Those will add $12-14 each and you have to be careful about buying the right lids.

That is not a very good price for used cornys without lids IMHO. I'd keep looking. Many people find Craig's list deals way cheaper. Even e-bay has better deals than what you found.

I wouldn't buy them for that much. But then again I can purchase them local from kegglebrewing.com for $25 each reconditioned or less if they have loose tops.

yup. seems right. So, it being my first time at the scrap yard, i got excited and got one anyway. A waste of 20 bucks it seems. And since i have no experience kegging or anything, i dont know if its in decent shape or not. Anyway to tell? it says pepsi co on the side. anyway to tell what lid it would take (oval, but which type?)

Yeah you didn't waste money but it's hard to tell what all you would need for it. As others mentioned, does it have the gas and liquid dip tubes? How about the poppet valves and the gas and liquid posts? How does the inside of it look, rust, syrup etc...

It sounds like you got a ball lock type keg (pepsi) as compared to a pin lock type (coke). Ball locks are in general more prefered by homebrewers but there are quite a few pin lock fans around here. Does the keg say what model it is such as firestone, challanger or anything else?
