Ok, I just bought 2 5 gallon soda kegs. The guy told me that i would either get Cornelius or Firestone kegs. Other than the name what is the difference? How do i tell which one i have? I know they both look similar. is one better quality? different fittings? I ave no idea:confused:

They are for all purposes, the same. They will be stamped on the side or on the lid generally as to the manufacturer. I have both, and there is no difference as far as I can tell.

you will only need to know what you have if you need to order new fittings as the thread sizes vary. But practically speaking to get two new posts often costs as much as a used keg so....

True true... posts and poppets can be different, but when you buy replacements, it specifies on the vendors site which is which. Also, like I said, you can tell what brand they are by looking on the side of the keg.

Thanks guys. This helps me quite a bit. Also, I was browsing the other day looking to buy some more kegs and ran into anther brand. Spartanburg kegs? has anyone heard of these before? The lid and disconnects look the same but it is all stainless and looks more aesthetically pleasing in my opinion.

Those are basically the same as well... no difference in hooking them up to your draft system... but some replacement components will differ between the different brands. The ALL stainless kegs are generally either single handle kegs, or NEW kegs witout the rubber tops... but for all purposes, they are the same things and most of us have a mixed bunch.
As for aesthetics... well, no one ever sees my kegs so that was never really a concern. Spend big money on nice taps, that is what people will see ;)

EDIT: I have various Firestone, Cornelius etc... kegs, they all attach to my draft system in the identical manner. When I buy replacement poppets or posts, that is the only time the manufacturer comes into play. And those purchases are few and far between.
