I want to store hard cider long-term. Most of which will be carbonated. My question for the community is, how long will corks from a LHBS last?
I see mix reviews, but it sounds like 3-years. After that point you need to re-cork. To me this seems like a total hassle.
I'm looking at any alternative including screw on caps. I want to store this hard cider for literally 5-10 years. The benefit for screw on caps also is that they don't need to be stored sideways and there is no cork that could potentially dry out and be a hassle. The downside is no oxygen exposure.
I plan on using potassium sorbate and metabisulfite, carbonating via keg, and using beer gun right into bottle. I have corks and cages right now.
