Hi folks, hoping to get thoughts on whether my beer is contaminated. I've never had contamination or seen this in my carboy. This occurred after I put in a dry hop bag for 3 days. My only guess is that maybe my hop bag wasn't clean and sanitized (although I did sanitize it). But before I give up on this batch, I wanted to see what people thought. Thanks for your input.

Ya It looks like clumps of yeast or something to me... doesn't really look like an infection.

I wouldn't give up until I tasted it and it tasted infected.

Looks like a lot of my batches, none of which were infected.

looks like coagulated cold break. did you dump your entire boil kettle into your primary, or did you leave any trub behind in the kettle? i'm guessing the former... hence the gunk.

That looks okay. I have sometimes had a spidery mould form when dry hopping. I just bottle anyway and it has no effect. Don't be too bothered about looks or smell during the processes. If in doubt, take a sample and taste it.

Also, assuming you had a good primary fermentation and didn't dry hop until primary was done, it'd be pretty hard for any infection to take hold. Not impossible, but fairly unlikely since there would be fewer sugars to feed an infection and enough alcohol to keep one from taking hold.

Of course, that doesn't mean you shouldn't continue to practice good sanitation techniques ever time you work with your beer. :)

Hi folks, appreciate the responses (and sorry for my late reply). Yeast clumps was my conclusion as well after talking to a few fellow brewers.

@BigFloyd, I tasted it, and it tasted great.

@sweetcell, I did dump my entire boil kettle into primary.

@SEABrewer, yep, I dry hopped after primary.

Thanks for the advice. This baby will be ready to drink in another week, just in time for the holidays.
