I have 2 complete regulators. One I bought with keg system and the other came with my kegerator. I am starting to keep two styles on tap but have been switching once one runs out. Is there a way I can connect both my regulators to one CO2 tank? I know you can buy a duel stage regulator but since I have two complete regulator setups would it be possible to use what I have or are the other things/parts needed to do this?

I suppose you could have a "Y" or a "T" coming off the tank to split to each regulator, but it would be pretty bulky compared to a single, dual-pressure regulator or a single-pressure regulator with a secondary regulator.

It shouldn't be too hard. Just add a T between the bottle and the inlet of the regs.

Do you want to maintain two different pressures with the two regulators? If no, than tee off of the regulator and send a gas line to each keg.

I am trying to do two different pressures. Say serve an ale and a porter?

You likely can remove the tank coupler/stem from one of the regs, remove the high pressure gauge from the other reg, then thread them together with a 1/4" MPT nipple.

The one thing to watch for is the thread directions at both ends. Some regs use right hand threads, some left. You can find nipples that will work with either...

Cheers!

This ^^^^

It should be possible to combine the two single bodies into a dual body regulator if both are either RH or LH. If one is RH and the other is LH, then a custom nipple would be needed.

If they are both the same thread and direction, could I find the part needed say at Home Depot? Like the WATTS parts they carry?

Also why is the thread direction so critical? Couldn't I just hold the nipple and spin the regulator until it's tight in either direction needed?

You can't do that because the threads are cut either clockwise or counterclockwise. They physically can't thread together.

If they're both RHT there's a decent chance you can find an RHT NPT brass nipple long enough to space the two regs far enough apart so they don't interfere with each other.

If either or both ends are LHT, I suspect you won't find a matching nipple in a big box store...

Cheers!

You need a Left Hand Thread (LHT) nipple for many primary regulators because it is a high pressure connection. They are designed this way for safety. The threaded brass parts like for plumbing are not the same. Usually secondary regulators and connections will have Right Hand Thread because you don't need to use high pressure fittings.

Also, you can't just tee off from the tank output...you need a special hose rated for the pressure. It isn't 30psi like you use for serving the beer, at room temp the CO2 will come out at over 800 psi. It'll blow up even the high pressure braided vinyl tubing.

fwiw, I have four Chudnow primary regs, one dual-body and two singles.
The high pressure fittings - including the tank coupler stems, the body-to-body nipple on the dual, and all three high pressure gauges - are all RHT...

Cheers!

Good to know! My Taprite, Micromatic, and Norgren primaries have LHT so I assumed that was some kind of standard. Nonetheless, you should pay attention to whether the fittings you use are rated for the pressure straight out of the tank.

I found a place that can supply me with the nipple to connect the two. They said that chudnow regs are RIGHT HAND THREADED. Both my regs are right hand threaded so the nipple should work. The only thing is they are charging me 17.99 for the little stupid nipple.
Does anyone know if I could get this locally? And what I would possibly be looking for? I'm all about being safe and what not but almost $20 for such a minute peice seems silly.

Great! And you think this will be ok with the pressure correct??

At room temp, my pressure gage usually shows ~750 psi and drops to around 500 after it's been in the fridge for a while. The product specs show that it's rated for 1200 psi max, so I'm sure it'll be fine.

Here's another. This one is marketed specifically for the purpose. Shipping is extremely reasonable, so this one might be a better bet, as it's cheaper than the HD nipple and there's no question whether it will work.
