Hey !
So i got this extract kit from morebeer .
Has 5 oz. columbus hops.
Directions are:
1oz 60 mins
2oz @ 5 mins
2oz @1 min.
I think i would like to do 2ozs of dry hop instead of one of
the later additions.
What do you think ?

Split the later additions, don't remove one. Columbus has a great earthy dank, very slight citrus, pungent dry hop flavor and aroma. I usually use only 0.5 oz to dry hop a 5 gallon batch for ales that don't usually get dry hopped and they really benefit from it. I've done about 1.5 oz in combination with willamette before in a red rye ipa and it was great so you can definitely use more.

With that said if you decide to dry hop I would not suggest removing one of your later additions. Perhaps cut each of your additions down to either 1 oz or 1.5 oz so you'll have 1 or 2 oz for dry hopping. Given that you have a 5 and 1 minute addition, a 1 oz of dry hop should compliment those nicely.

Totally agree, cut those late additions in half and use the rest for dry hop - I just checked out morebeer.com cause I've never heard of them and I like the idea of their single hop series but I'm seeing that they give you an oz. of magnum hops for the 60 min and then the rest are the single hops - did you not get magnums with yours?

Depends on what you're looking for in bitterness/aroma balance. IMO, removing the 2 oz. late addition, whether you dry hop or not, would sacrifice an otherwise characteristic IPA bitter finish.

Pine tree state, ayuh.
Yeah this kit is not part of their single hop experiment collection so no magnum,
just a single hop IPA.
I did a batch of their Amarillo single hop experiment and really liked that one.

Awesome, super interested in single hop Columbus beer so I'm curious to know how that comes out - have always heard Columbus hops are the most similar to the ganja in aroma :D

The only single hop I've ever done was with simcoe in my own recipe and that came out awesome - super citrusy/tropical fruity - don't know why I haven't continued trying single hop beers - I know what I'm doin next :mug:

I just did this very exact kit about 16 days ago, it is still in the primary. I did this pretty much to instructions BUT, I used half Cascade & half Columbus & kept it at 64F, will see how it comes out. It sure smells good in the fridge.

As soon as this is bottled I going to do another just like it, not sure of the hops though, will worry about that later. :mug: :tank:

Nice okiepc, I'm sure that will turn out great - I'm currently transferring my pale ale I brewed two weeks ago to my secondary to dry hop with simcoe and cascade - I got a kit thats using Columbus for bittering and cascade/simcoe for late additions/dry hop - it smells awesome
