I went to get my 5# CO2 tank filled today. When I got it back, the guy told me that he put 5.5# in it.

Is this even possible?

If it is possible, is it safe?

Should I purge some CO2 out of it before I hook it up to my regulator?

The Tare weight is stamped on the cylinder near the neck.
Weigh the tank and see what's what.

fwiw, I routinely do a couple of short blasts before screwing on a regulator just to eliminate any CO2 droplets from the fill (which do crazy stuff to regulators)...

Cheers!

A cold cylinder can hold more than a warm cylinder. I doubt they'd have problems filling a 5 lb cylinder in summer however without having a method to keep a bigger tank cold you'd be getting less than a full tank for something like a 20lb on a hot summer day in my experience with filling tanks with gas.
