My wife got me a third keg for Christmas, and I bought a secondary regulator to attach to my two existing ones (along with the appropriate hoses/disconnects).
Well, the thing came with hose attachments already screwed into its ports, very tightly, possibly with a machine, so I spent much of last night getting them out, tapping them with a hammer, using hot water and then cold water to try and loosen the attachments, accidentally dropping it once, and finally with a lot of persistence they came loose. I mention this because I'm afraid I may have broken the regulator in my effort to get the fittings out.
I was still missing a brass nipple, so today I came home after getting one at Lowe's and assembled it. I hooked it up to the gas to do a leak test and HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS..... CO2 is rushing out the hole on top, which I believe to be a safety valve. The gauge reads zero, but when I put my finger on the hole it goes up to 20 or 30. I tried tightening it to reduce the pressure on the secondary line, and that seemed to reduce the hissing but I could still feel it coming out, although possibly less forcefully.
I disassembled it and nothing looks broken - there appears to be a diaphragm with a very large spring, a smaller spring assembly holding a large bolt opposite that appears to allow the diaphragm to adjust, and a washer inside the cap. I tried keg lube on the diaphragm in case perhaps there was just a bad seal but no luck.
Anyway, should I go back to the LHBS to try and get this replaced or am I just doing something wrong with it?
Screenshots below. It says TapRite on the back but I can't seem to find this model on the TapRite website.
