Had a boiliver recently while brewing a milk stout. All that sugar water ran down onto my stovetop. Kept boil going, and the stuff basically caramelized and cooked onto a piece of the stovetop.

Tried cleaning it with everything down to steel wool and barkeeper's friend. Nothing will get the gritty film off. Any ideas on what to use?

If you've already tried BKF and you couldn't get it off this might not work, but try something called Cooktop Magic. Its like the soft scrub of stoves. I can get anything off of my stove with just that stuff and a sponge. So I'm guessing if you apply it and use steel wool, it should work...good luck.
