CIP spray ball location

For those of you who CIP your equipment, is there a difference in performance between mounting the spray ball in the lid of the kettle vs. on the sidewall?

They can work in either orientation. Just make sure you mount it in a way that the the spray cone reaches all parts of the equipment to be cleaned. You can find the effective working angle of your spray ball in its specs. Usually it will be 170-360 degrees.
