Wow, been a while since I felt like a complete noob on HBT, but...I was wondering if I could check my kegging process and see what else, if anything, I need to do?
SWMBO (wonderful woman that she is) recently got me a kegerator and I made my first attempt at kegging last night and this morning. Last night, I racked to the keg after first sanitizing with StarSan. I then sealed with the lid, which I had also sanitized with StarSan. I hooked the keg up to the gas and gave it a shot of CO2 to really seal the lid. Didn't purge the headspace, which I know is my first mistake (but which won't be repeated, I hope).
After leaving the keg in the kegerator overnight, I hooked it up to the gas this morning, set the regulator to 16 PSI and let 'er rip. (I'm trying for ~2.5 volumes of gas. American wheat for SWMBO.) I leaned the keg a little and shook it back and forth for about 5-7 minutes. Because the kegerator door was open, the compressor kicked in, so I couldn't really hear whether or not the regulator was still hissing, but it seemed pretty quiet. I had to go to work, so I unhooked the keg from the gas, put it back in the fridge, and closed it all up.
After work today, I intend to hook up the serving line and test it out. Think I'm going to be disappointed with the results? Anything I should do before I try the first draft?
Thanks for any input!
