Years ago, I bought a wine/champagne saver pump set. It came with a dual purpose pump, two rubber stoppers for wine and a threaded cap for soda bottles/champagne. The entire set was about $14.
Well, the other night we were going to a friend's house for dinner and they insisted I bring some homebrew. Since I've gone completely to kegs, I came up with an idea. I emptied a 2 liter Coke bottle, cleaned and sanitized it, and filled it up with my IPA from the tap. I then screwed on the soda/champagne cap and pumped the bottle full of air to maintain carbonation.
It worked beautifully. It's certainly not an ideal solution and it's only good for short term use, but it is cheap and it did work.
