Sorry if this has been covered, but I can't find it. I've let my cider ferment for three weeks, trying to get it fairly dry but with some apple flavor and wondering whether I can carbonate it in the original 1 gallon jug I bought it in? My thinking is if I can carb it in there, then taste it after a few weeks and if it's too dry and not appley enough I could add some apple juice at that point then transfer to bottles and store those in the fridge. Good idea or terrible idea?

No, they're not made to withstand the pressure generated during the carbonation process.

For a detailed explanation, read this.

Thanks, I'll just carbonate in normal beer bottles then and mix with some juice when I drink it if necessary.
