Hello,

When plugging your secondary (5 gal), would you typically need a driled rubber stopper with an airlock, or would a standard plug (without the hole for the airlock) work just fine?

I seem to remember people talking about not having to worry about excess gasses during the secondary phase, since the activity has slowed so much.

Thanks guys!

Bob

I always get a few bubbles in the secondary. Especially right after racking from the primary. Seems to wake up the yeasties a bit. So I would not use a standard plug...

thank you. The kit I am buying comes with a drilled stopper and an airlock. I am thinking about buying an extra of both in case i need to use both the primary and the secondary for consecutive batches.

Thanks again!

It's always good to have some of everything. I had a recent jug of wine that decided it needed to absorb some gas, so it started sucking on the airlock. Well, solid bung time.

Beer gives off plenty of gas. I've seen it stop, but I've never seen it try to absorb. A guy could maybe profit from a plug when lagering for a really long time in the fridge...
