Canning your Brew

So a friend of mine got a quote on a canner (for doing soda/beer cans) and I was wondering if anyone here actaully would can assuming it was easy and inexpensive to do- say at a local brew on premisis location.

I'm currious if there is a desire for homebrewers to be able to can.

about the only pros I can think of is that they are non breakable and thus better for transport to a friends house/ out to the fire pit thanglass. But they are also non reusable.

oh and the price is rather prohibitive for thehome brewer - about 17K for filler, can seamer and 6 packer (puts it in those 6 pack rings). Again, Imagine for a moment you could do it cheap and easily.

I don't really see any benefit to it at the homebrew level, even if it was cheap. Bottling costs basically nothing if you drink commercial beer already anyway, and buying the caps is insignificant as far as spending. I guess it would be good for brews that require really long aging, but other than that I don't see the benefit at the homebrew level. Cans are great for commercial applications.

Nope. There thought of having to move a carboy full of nearly clear beer more than 5 feet would be an instant turn off for me (unless said mythical facility also offered filtering).

I already use 5 gallon cans.

Bottles are just so much more practical for home brewers. If you don't like glass, there's always plastic bottles.

I tried 2 of the Miller Lite screw top cans (pints) on my Porter and they worked well. Was weird cracking open a Miller Lite and pouring out some dark goodness.

cans are too small, unless it is a gallon paint can, but then the filling line would need some paint thinner spraying device built in to the system, cause i don't drink periwinkle beer any more.
