Hello, I am new to brewing and I decided to start out by building a HERMS system. I am going to brew a batch for the first time this weekend and I wanted to use the same heat exchange coil that I run my mash through as a wort chiller too. I am concerned about sanitation here. Is it ok to run you finished wort through the same coil that you had been previously mashing through? I was just going to put ice water in the HLT and run the boiled wort through it, but there will still be still be residue in the coil from the mashing process. Will this hurt, contaminate the finished wort? Should I just have a seperate coil for mashing and chilling? Thanks for any input
