Hello everyone. I've made a few batches of hard cider before but the last couple have left me with this weird scratchy throat/tongue/mouth very shortly after drinking it. It's been aging for about a year and I noticed a smell of dirty socks at bottling. What do you guys think? I'm not too keen on getting sick from it. Of course I sanitized everything but I'm human and there's always a possibility of something going wrong.
Can hard cider sometimes smell nasty like that?

It could be an allergy to something (the fruit or some mold), excessive tannins that can cause that kind of thing, or reaction to sulfur if you sulfited before you pitched. Most of the bacteria that could possibly live in cider may cause an upset stomach, but not illness like a cold or sore throat. Either way, if it makes you consistently feel like that I would dump it.
